The Treaty of al-Hudaybiyah
[ دَعْوَةُ الرَّسُولِ لِلْمُحَلِّقِينَ ثُمَّ لِلْمُقَصِّرِينَ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: فَحَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهَدٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: حَلَقَ رِجَالٌ يَوْمَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ، وَقَصَّرَ آخَرُونَ. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: يَرْحَمُ اللَّهُ الْمُحَلِّقِينَ، قَالُوا: وَالْمُقَصِّرِينَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ: يَرْحَمُ اللَّهُ الْمُحَلِّقِينَ، قَالُوا: وَالْمُقَصِّرِينَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ: يَرْحَمُ اللَّهُ الْمُحَلِّقِينَ، قَالُوا: وَالْمُقَصِّرِينَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ: وَالْمُقَصِّرِينَ؛ فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ: فَلِمَ ظَاهَرْتُ التَّرْحِيمَ لِلْمُحَلِّقِينَ دُونَ الْمُقَصِّرِينَ ؟ قَالَ: لَمْ يَشُكُّوا وَبَعَثَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى رِيحًا عَاصِفَةً فَاحْتَمَلَتْ أَشْعَارَهُمْ فَأَلْقَتْهَا فِي الْحَرَمِ
Translation
✧ The Prophet's supplication for those who shaved, then for those who shortened Ibn Isḥāq said: ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Najīḥ narrated to me, from Mujāhid, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: Some men shaved on the day of al-Ḥudaybiyah, and others shortened. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "May Allah have mercy on those who shaved." They said: "And those who shortened, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "May Allah have mercy on those who shaved." They said: "And those who shortened, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "May Allah have mercy on those who shaved." They said: "And those who shortened, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "And those who shortened." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, why did you show repeated mercy to those who shaved rather than those who shortened?" He said: "They did not doubt." Then Allah Almighty sent a violent wind that carried their hair and cast it into the Sanctuary.
