Translation
✧ The arrival of the wife of Abu Dharr on the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ Imam Ahmad, Muslim, and Abu Dawud narrated from ʿImrān b. Ḥuṣayn ؓ, and he mentioned the ḥadīth, in which it says: “The woman was in bonds, and the people used to rest their livestock in front of their houses. One night she slipped away from the bonds and came to the camels. Whenever she drew near a camel, it grumbled, so she left it, until she reached al-ʿAḍbāʾ, and it did not grumble. He said: It was a trained she-camel. She sat on its hindquarters, then urged it on, and it set off. They had seen her and pursued her, but she eluded them. He said: She had vowed that if Allah, mighty and glorious, saved her, she would surely slaughter it. When she arrived in Madinah, the people saw her and said: Al-ʿAḍbāʾ, the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said: She had vowed that if Allah saved her upon it, she would surely slaughter it. They came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned that to him, and he said: “Glory be to Allah! What a bad way she has repaid it. She vowed that if Allah saved her, she would surely slaughter it. There is no fulfillment of a vow in disobedience, nor in what the son of Adam does not own.” Ibn Isḥāq added from the mursal of al-Ḥasan: “It is only a she-camel from my camels. Return to your family with the blessing of Allah.” The nephew of ʿUyaynah came with the milch-camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, al-Samrāʾ, and Salmā gave him good news of it. He ﷺ went out rejoicing, and there was its head in the hand of the nephew of ʿUyaynah. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw it, he recognized it, then said: “I swear by your Lord.” He said: O Messenger of Allah, I have gifted you this milch-camel. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and took it from him. Then he stayed with him for a day or two. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered for him three ounces of silver, and he began to be displeased. Salmā said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, will you reward him for a she-camel from your camels? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Yes, and he is displeased with me.” Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed the noon prayer, then ascended the pulpit, praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: “A man may gift me a she-camel from my own camels, which I recognize as I recognize some of my own family, and then I reward him for it, yet he remains displeased with me. I have resolved not to accept a gift except from a Qurashī, an Anṣārī, a Thaqafī, or a Dawsī.”
