The Expedition of Dhat al-Riqa'
قِصَّةُ الرَّجُلِ الَّذِي دَعَا عَلَيْهِ ﷺ بِضَرْبِ رَقَبَتِهِ: رَوَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، وَالْحَاكِمُ، وَأَبُو نُعَيْمٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ ؓ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ رَأَى عَلَى رَجُلٍ ثَوْبًا مَخْرُوقًا، فَقَالَ: مَا لَهُ غَيْرُهُ ؟ فَقَالُوا لَهُ ثَوْبَانِ جَدِيدَانِ فِي الْعَيْبَةِ، فَأَمَرَهُ بِلَبْسِهِمَا، فَلَمَّا وَلَّى الرَّجُلُ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أَلَيْسَ هَذَا أَحْسَنَ ؟ مَا لَهُ ضَرَبَ اللَّهُ عُنُقَهُ ؟ ” فَسَمِعَهُ الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَقُتِلَ الرَّجُلُ فِي وَقْعَةِ الْيَمَامَةِ.
Translation
✧ The story of the man against whom he ﷺ prayed that his neck be struck: Muḥammad b. ʿUmar, al-Ḥākim, and Abū Nuʿaym related from Jābir ؓ that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw a torn garment on a man and said: "Does he have nothing other than it?" They said: "He has two new garments in the bag." So he ordered him to wear them. When the man turned away, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Is this not better? May Allah strike his neck!" The man heard him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, in the path of Allah Almighty." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "In the path of Allah." The man was killed in the Battle of al-Yamāmah.
