The Expedition of Dhat al-Riqa'
Translation
✧ The story of the three eggs: Muhammad b. ʿUmar and Abū Nuʿaym related from Jābir ؓ that he said concerning the expedition of Dhāt al-Riqāʿ: ʿUlbah b. Zayd al-Ḥārithī ؓ came with three ostrich eggs, and said, “O Messenger of Allah, I found these eggs in an ostrich nesting scrape.” He said, “Take over, Jābir, and prepare these eggs.” So I prepared them, then brought them in a bowl, and I began looking for bread but could not find any. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions began eating from those eggs without bread until he reached his fill, while the eggs remained in the bowl as they were. Then he rose, and the majority of his companions ate from them. Then we departed at midday.
