The Expedition of al-Furʿ (the Expedition of Banū Sulaym)

Translation

✧ THE EXPEDITION OF AL-FURʿ FROM BUḤRĀN Then the Messenger of God ﷺ went on an expedition, intending Quraysh, and that was when six nights had passed of Jumādā al-Ūlā, [at the head of twenty-seven months from his emigration], at Buḥrān, which is in the vicinity of [al-Furʿ], and between al-Furʿ and Madinah there are eight barīds. Al-Furʿ: as al-Suhaylī said: with two ḍammas, and upon that the judge proceeded in al-Mashāriq, and he said in al-Tanbīhāt: thus the people restricted it and thus we transmitted it, and ʿAbd al-Ḥaqq related from al-Aḥwal that it is with a sukūn on the rāʾ, and none other mentioned it, and he quoted in al-Zahr that al-Ḥāzimī agreed with him. And it occurred in al-ʿUyūn, quoting from al-Suhaylī, that it is with a fatḥa on the fāʾ and the rāʾ, but al-Suhaylī only quoted that after he had mentioned that al-Furʿ, at which the expedition occurred, is with two ḍammas, then he said: and al-Faraʿ—with two fatḥas—is a place between Baṣra and Kūfa. It is apparent that in Abū al-Fatḥ's copy of al-Rawḍ something was omitted, or his gaze shifted from the preceding al-Furʿ to the second al-Faraʿ. Buḥrān (with a ḍamma on the bāʾ, and it is said with a fatḥa on it, and a sukūn on the undotted ḥāʾ, then an undotted rāʾ). Its cause was that the Prophet ﷺ was told that there was a large gathering of Banū Sulaym b. Manṣūr there.
