✧ Hafsah said to Umar, "Will you not wear a garment softer than your garment and eat food better than your food, when Allah has opened the matter for you and expanded provision for you?" He said, "I will contend with you against yourself," and he mentioned the affair of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the hardship of living he used to endure. He kept mentioning it until she wept. Then he said, "I have resolved to share with them in their harsh living, so that perhaps I may attain with them their easy living."
