25. The Lost

    أَنَّ نَاسًا مِنْ بَنِي عَامِرٍ قَدِمُوا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالُوا نَجِدُ هَوَامِيَ مِنَ الْإِبِلِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «ضَالَّةُ الْمُسْلِمِ حَرَقُ النَّارِ»

    ✧ Some people from Banu 'Amir came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "We find stray camels." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The lost animal of a Muslim is a brand of the Fire."

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The lost animal of a Muslim is a brand of the Fire."

    ✧ From the Prophet ﷺ, he said: "The lost animal of a Muslim is a brand of the Fire, so do not approach it." Shu'ba contradicted him.

    أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ عَلَى إِبِلٍ عِجَافٍ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا نَمُرُّ بِمَوْضِعٍ قَدْ سَمَّاهُ فَنَجِدُ إِبِلًا فَنَرْكَبُهَا قَالَ «ضَالَّةُ الْمُسْلِمِ حَرَقُ النَّارِ» تَابَعَهُ عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ

    ✧ We came to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, while we were on camels with saddles. We said, "O Messenger of Allah, we are passing by a place that is called a resting place, and there we find some camels, so we ride them." He said, "The lost property of a Muslim is the fire." Abdu Wahhab followed him.

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The lost animal of a Muslim is a brand of the Fire."

    ✧ He asked the Prophet ﷺ about stray animals, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The lost animal of a Muslim is a brand of the Fire."

    قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «ضَالَّةُ الْمُسْلِمِ حَرَقُ النَّارِ» خَالَفَهُ جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The loss of a Muslim is the burning of the Fire." Jarir ibn Hazim disagreed with him.

    قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِيَّاكَ وَضَالَّةَ الْمُسْلِمِ فَإِنَّهَا حَرَقُ النَّارِ»

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Beware of the lost animal of a Muslim, for it is a brand of the Fire."

    كُنَّا مَعَ جَرِيرٍ بِالْبَوَازِيجِ فَرَاحَتِ الْبَقَرُ فَرَأَى فِيهَا بَقَرَةً أَنْكَرَهَا فَأَمَرَ بِطَرْدِهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَا يُؤْوِي الضَّالَّةَ إِلَّا ضَالٌّ»

    ✧ We were with Jarir at al-Bawazij when the cattle returned in the evening. He saw among them a cow he did not recognize, so he ordered it to be driven away. Then he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Only a stray can shelter a stray.'

    سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَا يُؤْوِي الضَّالَّةَ إِلَّا ضَالٌّ»

    ✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Only a stray can shelter a stray.'

    أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «لَا يُؤْوِي الضَّالَّةَ وَلَا يَأْخُذُهَا إِلَّا ضَالٌّ»

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Only a stray shelters or takes a stray.'

    أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْإِبِلِ فَقَالَ «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا مَعَهَا سِقَاؤُهَا وَحِذَاؤُهَا دَعْهَا تَأْكُلُ مِنَ الشَّجَرِ وَتَرِدُ عَلَى الْمَاءِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهَا بَاغِيهَا» وَسُئِلَ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْغَنَمِ قَالَ «هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»

    ✧ A man asked the Prophet SAW about a lost camel. He said, "What is the matter with you and the camel's supplies and shoes? Leave it to eat from the trees and return to the water until its owner comes." He was asked about a lost sheep, and he said, "It is yours or your brother's or the wolf's."

    أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ سُئِلَ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْإِبِلِ فَغَضِبَ حَتَّى احْمَارَّتْ وَجْنَتَاهُ فَقَالَ «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا مَعَهَا الْحِذَاءُ وَالسِّقَاءُ تَرِدُ الْمَاءَ وَتَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ حَتَّى يَلْقَاهَا رَبُّهَا» وَسُئِلَ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْغَنَمِ فَقَالَ «خُذْهَا فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ was asked about a stray camel. He became angry until his cheeks turned red and said: 'What do you have to do with it? It has its own shoes and water-skin, it can reach water and eat trees until its owner finds it.' He was asked about a stray sheep and said: 'Take it, for it is for you, or your brother, or the wolf.'

    يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ضَالَّةُ الْغَنَمِ قَالَ «خُذْهَا فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ» قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَضَالَّةُ الْإِبِلِ؟ فَغَضِبَ فَقَالَ «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا مَعَهَا حِذَاؤُهَا وَسِقَاؤُهَا دَعْهَا حَتَّى يَلْقَاهَا رَبُّهَا»

    ✧ O Messenger of Allah, what about a stray sheep? He said: 'Take it, for it is for you, or your brother, or the wolf.' He said: O Messenger of Allah, what about a stray camel? He became angry and said: 'What do you have to do with it? It has its own shoes and water-skin. Leave it until its owner finds it.'
