50. ✧ Abu Waqid al-Laythi

    أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ أَتَى خَيْبَرَ مَرَّ بِشَجَرَةٍ يُعَلِّقُ الْمُشْرِكُونَ عَلَيْهَا أَسْلِحَتَهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهَا: ذَاتُ أَنْوَاطٍ، فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، اجْعَلْ لَنَا ذَاتَ أَنْوَاطٍ، فَقَالَ: اللهُ أَكْبَرُ، هَذَا كَمَا قَالَ قَوْمُ مُوسَى لِمُوسَى: اجْعَلْ لَنَا إِلَهًا كَمَا لَهُمْ آلِهَةٌ، لَتَرْكَبُنَّ سُنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ

    ✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Khaybar, he passed by a tree on which the polytheists used to hang their weapons, called Dhat Anwat. They said, "O Messenger of Allah, make for us a Dhat Anwat." He said, "Allah is greatest! This is as the people of Musa said to Musa: 'Make for us a god as they have gods.' You will surely follow the ways of those who came before you."

    أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيَّ، صَاحِبَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، وَذُكِرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ عِنْدَهُ، فَقَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَخَفَّ النَّاسِ صَلَاةً عَلَى النَّاسِ وَأَدْوَمَهُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ

    ✧ He heard Abu Waqid al-Laythi, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, while prayer was mentioned in his presence, say: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the lightest of people in prayer upon the people and the most constant of it upon himself."

    خَرَجَ عُمَرُ يَوْمَ عِيدٍ فَسَأَلَ أَبَا وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيَّ: بِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ قَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ ؟ فَقَالَ: بِـ " قَافْ وَ اقْتَرَبَتِ

    ✧ Umar went out on the day of Eid and asked Abu Waqid al-Laythi: "With what did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recite on this day?" He said: "With Qaf and Iqtarabat."

    سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لِأَزْوَاجِهِ عَامَ حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ: هَذِهِ، ثُمَّ ظُهُورَ الْحُصُرِ

    ✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say to his wives in the year of the Farewell Pilgrimage: "This, then the appearance of the mats."

    بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، إِذْ مَرَّ ثَلَاثَةُ نَفَرٍ، فَجَاءَ أَحَدُهُمْ، فَوَجَدَ فُرْجَةً فِي الْحَلْقَةِ، فَجَلَسَ، وَجَلَسَ الْآخَرُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِمْ، وَانْطَلَقَ الثَّالِثُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ عَنْ هَؤُلَاءِ النَّفَرِ ؟ قَالُوا: بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ: أَمَّا الَّذِي جَاءَ فَجَلَسَ فَأَوَى، فَآوَاهُ اللهُ، وَأَمَّا الَّذِي جَلَسَ مِنْ وَرَائِكُمْ فَاسْتَحْيَا، فَاسْتَحْيَا اللهُ مِنْهُ، وَأَمَّا الَّذِي انْطَلَقَ فَرَجُلٌ أَعْرَضَ، فَأَعْرَضَ اللهُ عَنْهُ

    ✧ While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, three persons passed by. One of them came and found a gap in the circle and sat down. Another sat behind them, and the third went away. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Shall I inform you about these persons?" They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "As for the one who came and sat, he sought refuge, so Allah sheltered him. As for the one who sat behind you, he was shy, so Allah was shy of him. As for the one who went away, he turned away, so Allah turned away from him."

    خَرَجَ عُمَرُ فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ، فَسَأَلَ أَبَا وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيَّ: بِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَقْرَأُ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ ؟ فَقَالَ: بِـ " قَافْ، وَ اقْتَرَبَتِ

    ✧ Umar went out on the day of Eid and asked Abu Waqid al-Laythi: "With what did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recite on this day?" He said: "With Qaf and Iqtarabat."

    سَأَلَنِي عُمَرُ بِمَ قَرَأَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ ؟ قُلْتُ: بِـ اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ، وَ" قَافْ وَالْقُرْآنِ الْمَجِيدِ

    ✧ Umar asked me: "With what did the Prophet of Allah ﷺ recite on the two Eids?" I said: "With Iqtarabat al-Sa'ah wa inshaqqa al-Qamar, and Qaf wa al-Qur'an al-Majid."

    كَانَ أَخَفَّ النَّاسِ صَلَاةً وَأَدْوَمَهُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ

    ✧ He was the lightest of people in prayer and the most constant of it upon himself.

    دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيِّ بِمَكَّةَ فِي مَرَضِهِ الَّذِي مَاتَ فِيهِ، فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ، أَوْ قَالَ لِي: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَخَفَّ النَّاسِ صَلَاةً وَأَدْوَمَهُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ

    ✧ I entered upon Abu Waqid al-Laythi in Makkah during the illness in which he died, and I heard him say, or he said to me: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the lightest of people in prayer and the most constant of it upon himself."

    قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ وَالنَّاسُ يَجُبُّونَ أَسْنِمَةَ الْإِبِلِ، وَيَقْطَعُونَ أَلَيَاتِ الْغَنَمِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: مَا قُطِعَ مِنَ الْبَهِيمَةِ وَهِيَ حَيَّةٌ، فَهِيَ مَيْتَةٌ

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Madinah while the people were cutting the humps of camels and cutting the fat tails of sheep. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whatever is cut from an animal while it is alive is dead meat."
