حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مِنْهَالٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ: «خَالِفُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ، وَفِّرُوا اللِّحَى، وَأَحْفُوا الشَّوَارِبَ». وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ إِذَا حَجَّ أَوِ اعْتَمَرَ قَبَضَ عَلَى لِحْيَتِهِ، فَمَا فَضَلَ أَخَذَهُ.

From the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "Differ from the polytheists: let the beards grow and trim the mustaches closely." Ibn Umar, when he performed Hajj or Umrah, would grasp his beard, and whatever exceeded that, he would cut off.
