The narrator said: I have forgotten the tenth, but it may have been rinsing the mouth.

machine translationThe hadith of Sulaymān al-Taymī and Jaʿfar b. Iyās is more likely to be correct than the hadith of Muṣʿab b. Shaybah, and Muṣʿab b. Shaybah is one whose hadith is rejected (munkar al-ḥadīth).

machine translationAlthough Muslim included this hadith in his Ṣaḥīḥ, it has two defects which Shaykh Taqī al-Dīn mentioned in al-Imām, attributing them to Ibn Mandah. The first is the criticism of Muṣʿab b. Shaybah. al-Nasāʾī said in his Sunan: he is of rejected hadith (munkar al-ḥadīth). Abū Ḥātim said: he is not strong, and they do not praise him. The second is that Sulaymān al-Taymī narrated it from Ṭalq b. Ḥabīb from Ibn al-Zubayr as a mursal report. This is how al-Nasāʾī narrated it in his Sunan. He also narrated it from Abū Bishr from Ṭalq b. Ḥabīb from Ibn al-Zubayr as mursal. al-Nasāʾī said: the hadith of al-Taymī and Abū Bishr is preferable, and Muṣʿab is of rejected hadith. End of quote. Because of these two defects al-Bukhārī did not include it, and Muslim paid them no regard, because Muṣʿab was trustworthy (thiqah) in his view, and when a trustworthy narrator connects a hadith, his connecting it takes precedence over the mursal form.
