حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو طَالِبٍ عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمَلِيحِ الرَّقِّيُّ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، كَانَتْ لَهُ صُحْبَةٌ

أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ زَائِرًا لِبَعْضِ إِخْوَانِهِ فَلَمْ يَنْتَهِ إِلَيْهِ حَتَّى بَلَغَهُ أَنَّهُ مَرِيضٌ. فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ: أَتَيْتُكَ زَائِرًا أَوْ أَتَيْتُكَ عَائِدًا أَوْ مُبَشِّرًا، قَالَ: وَكَيْفَ جَمَعْتَ هَذَا كُلَّهُ ؟ قَالَ: خَرَجْتُ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ زِيَارَتَكَ فَلَمْ أَصِلْ إِلَيْكَ حَتَّى بَلَغَنِي شَكَاتُكَ، فَكَانَتْ عِيَادَةً، وَأُبَشِّرُكَ بِشَيْءٍ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: إِذَا سَبَقَتْ لِلْعَبْدِ مِنَ اللهِ مَنْزِلَةٌ لَمْ يَبْلُغْهَا عَمَلًا ابْتَلَاهُ فِي جَسَدِهِ، أَوْ فِي مَالِهِ، أَوْ فِي وَلَدِهِ، ثُمَّ صَبَّرَهُ حَتَّى يَنَالَ الْمَنْزِلَةَ الَّتِي سَبَقَتْ لَهُ مِنَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

Translation

✧ He went out to visit one of his brothers, and he had not reached him until news came to him that he was ill. When he entered upon him, he said: “I came to you as a visitor, or I came to you as one visiting the sick, or as one bringing good news.” He said: “How did you combine all this?” He said: “I went out intending to visit you, and I did not reach you until your illness reached me, so it became a sick visit, and I bring you good news of something I heard from the Messenger of God ﷺ. He said: 'When a station from God for a servant is preceded but he has not reached it by his deeds, He tries him in his body, or in his wealth, or in his child, then He gives him patience until he attains the station that was preceded for him from God, Mighty and Majestic.'”
