✧ A man said, 'O Messenger of God, my father reached Islam as a very old man. If I bind him tightly on the saddle, I fear he may die, and if I do not bind him, he will not stay on. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?' He said, 'Do you think that if your father had a debt and you paid it, would that suffice him?' He said, 'Yes.' He said, 'So perform Hajj on behalf of your father.'

machine translationThe most authentic report on this topic is what Ibn ʿAbbās narrated from al-Faḍl b. ʿAbbās, from the Prophet, peace be upon him. Muḥammad said: It is possible that Ibn ʿAbbās heard it from al-Faḍl and others, from the Prophet ﷺ, and then transmitted it as a mursal report, without mentioning the one from whom he heard it.
