✧ Hajj for the Living who Cannot Afford Travel

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَمَ سَأَلَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ غَدَاةَ جَمْعٍ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَرِيضَةُ اللهِ فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَمْسِكُ عَلَى الرَّحْلِ أَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ» 3602 أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمَكِّيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مِثْلَهُ

✧ A woman from Khathʿam asked the Prophet ﷺ on the morning of Muzdalifah, “O Messenger of Allah, the obligation of Allah upon His servants concerning Hajj has come upon my father as an old man who cannot sit firmly on a mount. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?” He said, “Yes.” 3602 Saʿīd b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Makkī informed us, saying: Sufyān narrated to us, from Ibn Ṭāwūs, from his father, from Ibn ʿAbbās, the like of it.
