✧ A man came to me today and asked me about something I did not know how to answer. He said: 'What do you think of a dutiful, active man who goes out on military expeditions, and they bind us to things we cannot avoid?' I said to him: 'By Allah, I do not know what to say to you, except that we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and perhaps he would not bind us to a matter more than once until we did it. One of you will remain in good as long as he fears Allah, and if he doubts something in himself he asks a man who can cure it. It is near that you will not find him. By the One besides whom there is no deity, I do not remember what has passed of the world except as a pool whose clear water has been drunk and whose dregs remain.'
