✧ O son of my sister, I saw from the Messenger of God ﷺ an amazing thing in his honoring of al-Abbas. The Messenger of God ﷺ used to be seized by pleurisy, and it would become very severe for him. She said: We used to say, 'The Messenger of God has been seized by the vein of the kidney,' but we did not know the word for pleurisy. One day the Messenger of God ﷺ was seized by pleurisy, and it became so severe that he fainted. We feared for the Messenger of God ﷺ, and the people rushed to him in alarm. She said: We thought he had pleurisy, so we gave him medicine by the side of the mouth. She said: Then the Messenger of God ﷺ was relieved and regained consciousness. She said: He realized that we had given him the medicine and found its effect. He said, 'Did you think that God would give it power over me? God would not give it power over me. By Him in whose hand is my soul, no one in the house will remain without being given that medicine except my uncle.' Aisha said: I saw them that day being given the medicine one by one. Aisha said: Those in the house that day whose excellence is mentioned were given it. She said: All the men were given the medicine. She said: Then, by God, the medicine reached us, the wives of the Prophet ﷺ, and we were given it, by God, one by one. She said: Until the medicine reached a woman among us. She said: 'Indeed, by God, I am fasting.' We said to her, 'How bad is what you think, that we would leave you when the Messenger of God ﷺ has sworn?' She said: We gave her the medicine, by God, O son of my sister, while she was fasting. He said: 'Urwa said: 'Abbas, by God, took the hand of the Messenger of God ﷺ when the seventy of the Ansar came to him at al-'Aqaba. He took for the Messenger of God ﷺ from them and stipulated for them, and that was in the early dawn of Islam and its beginning, before anyone worshiped God openly.'
