✧ O son of my sister, I saw something amazing in the respect the Messenger of Allah ﷺ showed his uncle. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to suffer from flank pain, and it would become severe for him. We used to say, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has been afflicted by the kidney vein,' and we did not think to say, 'The flank pain has afflicted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' One day it became so severe for him that he fainted, and we feared for him. People rushed to him in alarm, and we thought he had pleurisy, so we gave him medicine by the side of his mouth. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was relieved and regained consciousness. He realized that he had been given the medicine and felt its effect, so he said: 'Did you think that Allah would give it power over me? Allah would never give it power over me. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, no one in the house will remain without being given that medicine except my uncle.' He said: 'I saw them administering it to them one man after another.' Aisha said: 'And who was in the house that day? We mention their virtue. All the men were given the medicine, and the medicine reached the wives of the Prophet ﷺ, and they were given it one woman after another until it reached a woman among us.' Abu al-Zinad said: 'I do not think she was anyone but Maymunah.' He said: 'The people said, Umm Salamah.' She said: 'By Allah, I am fasting.' We said: 'How bad, by Allah, did you think that we would leave you while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had sworn?' So we gave her the medicine.
