✧ Abdullah b. Salam came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “I will ask you about three things that none but a prophet knows.” He said: “Ask.” He said: “What is the first matter of the Hour, or the signs of the Hour? What is the first thing the people of Paradise will eat? And what causes a child to incline to its father, and a child to its mother?” He said: “Gabriel informed me of them just now.” He said: “Gabriel?” He said: “Yes.” He said: “That is the enemy of the Jews among the angels.” He said: “As for the first sign of the Hour, it is a fire that comes out from the east and drives the people to the west. As for the first thing the people of Paradise will eat, it is the extra lobe of a fish’s liver. As for what makes a child incline to its father and what makes a child incline to its mother, when the man’s fluid precedes the woman’s fluid, it inclines to its father, and when the woman’s fluid precedes the man’s fluid, it inclines to its mother.” He said: “I bear witness that there is no god but God and that you are the Messenger of God.” Then he said: “O Messenger of God, the Jews are a slanderous people, so hide me from them, then ask them about me—before they know of my Islam—what kind of man I am among them.” A group of them came, and the Messenger of God ﷺ said to them: “What kind of man is Abdullah among you?” They said: “Our best and the son of our best, our master and the son of our master, our most learned and the son of our most learned.” He said: “What would you think if Abdullah were to embrace Islam?” They said: “May God protect him from that.” Then Abdullah came out to them and said: “I bear witness that there is no god but God and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God.” They said: “Our worst and the son of our worst,” and the like. Abdullah said: “O Messenger of God, this is what I feared.”
