أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذٌ عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ قَالَ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ «§إِنِّي لَأَرْجُو

أَنْ لَا يَكُونَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَاتَ يَوْمَ مَاتَ وَهُوَ يُحِبُّ رَجُلًا فَيُدْخِلُهُ اللهُ النَّارَ» قَالُوا قَدْ كُنَّا نَرَاهُ يُحِبُّكَ قَدْ كَانَ يَسْتَعْمِلُكَ قَالَ «اللهُ أَعْلَمُ أَحَبَّنِي أَمْ تَأَلَّفَنِي وَلَكِنَّا قَدْ كُنَّا نَرَاهُ يُحِبُّ رَجُلًا» قَالُوا مَنْ ذَاكَ الرَّجُلُ؟ قَالَ «عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ» قَالُوا فَذَاكَ قَتِيلُكُمْ يَوْمَ صَفَّيْنِ قَالَ «قَدْ وَاللهِ قَتَلْنَاهُ»

✧ "That the Prophet ﷺ would not die on the day he died while loving a man and then Allah would admit him to the Fire." They said: "We used to think he loved you, and he used to appoint you." He said: "Allah knows best whether he loved me or was winning my heart. But we used to think he loved a man." They said: "Who is that man?" He said: "Ammar b. Yasir." They said: "That is the one you killed on the day of Siffin." He said: "By Allah, we killed him."
