✧ Ali gave a sermon and said: "O people, carry out the prescribed punishment on your slaves—those who are married and those who are not—for a slave woman belonging to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ committed adultery. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered me to flog her. I came to her and found she had recently given birth. I feared that if I flogged her she would die, so I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him, and he said: 'You have done well.'"

machine translationAl-Suddī narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Isrāʾīl and Zāʾidah narrated it from al-Suddī, from Saʿd b. ʿUbaydah, from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamī, from ʿAlī. ʿAbd al-Salām b. Ḥarb differed from them and narrated it from al-Suddī, from ʿAbd Khayr, from ʿAlī; ʿAlī b. Qādim reported that from him. The version of Isrāʾīl is more sound (aṣaḥḥ).
