✧ The martyrs are four: A believing man of excellent faith who met the enemy and was true to God until he was killed—that is the one to whom people will raise their eyes on the Day of Resurrection, like this, and he raised his head until his cap fell; I do not know whether it was Umar's cap or the Prophet's ﷺ. And a believing man of excellent faith, such that when he met the enemy it was as if his skin was being struck with the thorns of the talh tree out of cowardice; a stray arrow came to him and killed him, and he is in the second rank. And a believing man who mixed a good deed with an evil one, met the enemy and was true to God until he was killed—that one is in the third rank. And a believing man who was immoderate against himself, met the enemy and was true to God until he was killed—that one is in the fourth rank.
