✧ The martyrs are four: a believing man of excellent faith who meets the enemy and is true to God and is killed—that is the one at whom the people will look like this (and he raised his head until the cap of the Messenger of God ﷺ fell, or ʿUmar’s cap)—and the second is a believing man who meets the enemy and it is as if his back is struck with the thorns of the ṭalḥ tree; a stray arrow comes to him and kills him—he is in the second degree—and the third is a believing man who mixes a righteous deed with an evil one; he meets the enemy and is true to God, Mighty and Majestic, until he is killed—he said: that one is in the third degree—and the fourth is a believing man who greatly transgresses against himself; he meets the enemy and is true to God until he is killed—that one is in the fourth degree.
