حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ:

مَاتَتْ شَاةٌ لِسَوْدَةَ بِنْتِ زَمْعَةَ، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَاتَتْ فُلَانَةُ، تَعْنِي الشَّاةَ، قَالَ: فَلَوْلَا أَخَذْتُمْ مَسْكَهَا، فَقَالَتْ: نَأْخُذُ مَسْكَ شَاةٍ قَدْ مَاتَتْ ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: إِنَّمَا قَالَ: قُلْ لا أَجِدُ فِي مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ مُحَرَّمًا عَلَى طَاعِمٍ يَطْعَمُهُ الْآيَةَ، لَا بَأْسَ أَنْ تَدْبُغُوهُ تَنْتَفِعُونَ بِهِ، قَالَتْ: فَأَرْسَلَتْ إِلَيْهَا، فَسَلَخَتْ مَسْكَهَا، فَاتَّخَذَتْ مِنْهُ قِرْبَةً حَتَّى تَخَرَّقَتْ

Translation

✧ A sheep belonging to Sawda bt. Zam'a died. She said: 'O Messenger of God, so-and-so died,' meaning the sheep. He said: 'Why did you not take its hide?' She said: 'Should we take the hide of a sheep that has died?' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'He only said: "Say: I do not find in what has been revealed to me anything forbidden to an eater who eats it..." the verse. There is no harm in your tanning it and benefiting from it.' She said: So she sent for it and peeled its hide, and made from it a waterskin until it wore out.
