✧ I came to Madinah when a disease had struck it, and people were dying rapidly. I sat with Umar b. al-Khattab. A funeral procession passed by and its deceased was praised with good, so Umar said: It has become obligatory. Then another passed by and its deceased was spoken of with evil, so Umar said: It has become obligatory. Abu al-Aswad said: I asked: What has become obligatory, O Commander of the Faithful? He said: I said as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Any Muslim for whom four people testify to good, Allah will admit him to Paradise. We said: And three? He said: And three. We said: And two? He said: And two. Then we did not ask him about one.
