أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ
مَاتَ رَجُلٌ فَمَرُّوا بِجَنَازَتِهِ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «وَجَبَتْ» وَمَرُّوا بِأُخْرَى فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «وَجَبَتْ» فَسَأَلَهُ عُمَرُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ «أَنْتُمْ شُهُودُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ»

✧ A man died, and they brought his funeral procession past the Prophet ﷺ, and they praised him with evil, so the Prophet ﷺ said, 'It has become incumbent.' And they brought another, and they praised her with good, so the Prophet ﷺ said, 'It has become incumbent.' Umar asked him about that, so he said, 'You are the witnesses of God on earth.'
