حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ، أَنَّ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ قَالَ:

بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنَ مُجَزِّزٍ عَلَى بَعْثٍ أَنَا فِيهِمْ، فَخَرَجْنَا حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا عَلَى رَأْسِ غَزَاتِنَا أَوْ فِي بَعْضِ الطَّرِيقِ، فَاسْتَأْذَنَهُ طَائِفَةٌ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ، وَأَمَّرَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ حُذَافَةَ، وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ بَدْرٍ، وَكَانَتْ فِيهِ دُعَابَةٌ، فَكُنْتُ فِيمَنْ رَجَعَ مَعَهُ، فَبَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ فِي بَعْضِ الطَّرِيقِ فَنَزَلْنَا مَنْزِلَنَا وَأَوْقَدَ الْقَوْمُ نَارًا يَصْطَلُونَ بِهَا، أَوْ يَصْنَعُونَ عَلَيْهَا صَنِيعًا لَهُمْ، إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ عَبْدُ اللهِ: أَلَيْسَ لِي عَلَيْكُمُ السَّمْعُ وَالطَّاعَةُ ؟ قَالُوا: بَلَى، قَالَ: فَمَا أَنَا بِآمِرِكُمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا فَعَلْتُمُوهُ ؟ قَالُوا: بَلَى. قَالَ: فَإِنِّي أَعْزِمُ عَلَيْكُمْ بِحَقِّي وَطَاعَتِي إِلَّا تَوَاثَبْتُمْ فِي هَذِهِ النَّارِ، قَالَ: فَقَامَ نَاسٌ فَتَحَجَّزُوا، حَتَّى إِذَا ظَنَّ أَنَّهُمْ وَاثِبُونَ فِيهَا، قَالَ: أَمْسِكُوا عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْفُسَكُمْ، وَإِنَّمَا كُنْتُ أَضْحَكُ مَعَكُمْ، فَلَمَّا قَدِمُوا عَلَى نَبِيِّ اللهِ ﷺ ذَكَرُوا ذَلِكَ لَهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: مَنْ أَمَرَكُمْ مِنْهُمْ بِمَعْصِيَةٍ فَلَا تُطِيعُوهُ

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ sent 'Alqamah b. Mujazziz on an expedition in which I was among them. We set out until we were at the start of our campaign or on part of the road. A group sought his permission to leave, and he permitted them, and appointed 'Abdullah b. Hudhafah over them. He was one of the companions of Badr, and he had a sense of humor. I was among those who returned with him. While we were on part of the road, we halted at our camp, and the people lit a fire to warm themselves or to prepare something for themselves. Then 'Abdullah said to them: 'Do I not have the right of hearing and obedience over you?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Whatever I command you, will you not do it?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then I adjure you by my right and your obedience to me: throw yourselves into this fire.' He said: Some people stood up and girded themselves, until when he thought they were about to leap into it, he said: 'Restrain yourselves; I was only joking with you.' When they came to the Prophet of God ﷺ, they mentioned that to him. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'Whoever among them commands you to disobedience, do not obey him.'
