✧ Once severe hardship befell him, and some of my family said to me: "Would you ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for us?" He said: So I went in anger to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The first thing with which he confronted me was his saying: "Whoever seeks chastity, Allah will make him chaste, and whoever seeks sufficiency, Allah will make him self-sufficient. And whoever asks us, we will not withhold from him anything we find." He said: So I returned to myself and presented to it the choice: "Should I not seek chastity, so that Allah makes me chaste? Should I not seek sufficiency, so that Allah makes me self-sufficient?" He said: After that I never walked to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to ask him for anything out of need, until the world came to us and overwhelmed us, except what Allah protected.
