✧ Ali brought him a dinar he had found in the market. He said: "Announce it for three days." He did not find anyone who recognized it, so he returned to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him. He said: "Eat it, or: do as you wish with it." So he bought with three dirhams barley, and with three dirhams dates, and bought with a dirham meat, and with a dirham oil, and he had a dirham left over—the exchange rate was eleven to a dinar—until after that its owner came and recognized it. Ali said to him: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me to eat it." Then its owner went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned all of that to him. He said to Ali: "Return it to the man." He said: "I have eaten it." The Prophet ﷺ said: "If anything comes to us, we will give it to you."
