حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ ثَقِيفَ، يُقَالُ لَهُ: أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي زُهَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ، قَالَ:
قُلْتُ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ: كَيْفَ الصَّلَاحُ بَعْدَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ: مَنْ يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ، كُلُّ سُوءٍ عَمِلْنَا نُجْزَى بِهِ ؟ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: غَفَرَ اللهُ لَكَ - أَوْ: رَحِمَكَ اللهُ - أَلَسْتَ تَمْرَضُ ؟ أَلَسْتَ تَحْزَنُ ؟ أَلَسْتَ تُصِيبُكَ اللَّأْوَاءُ ؟

✧ I said to the Prophet ﷺ: How can there be well-being after this verse: “Whoever does evil will be recompensed for it”? Is every evil we do requited? The Prophet ﷺ said to him: May God forgive you—or: May God have mercy on you—do you not fall ill? Do you not grieve? Do you not suffer hardship?
