حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي زُهَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ:
يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، كَيْفَ الصَّلَاحُ بَعْدَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ: مَنْ يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ كُلُّ سُوءٍ نَعْمَلُهُ نُجْزَى بِهِ ؟ قَالَ: رَحِمَكَ اللهُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ، أَلَسْتَ تَمْرَضُ ؟ أَلَسْتَ تَنْصَبُ ؟ أَلَسْتَ تُصِيبُكَ اللَّأْوَاءُ ؟ فَذَاكَ مَا تُجْزَوْنَ بِهِ
Translation

✧ O Messenger of God, how can there be well-being after this verse: “Whoever does evil will be recompensed for it”? Is every evil we do requited? He said: May God have mercy on you, Abu Bakr. Do you not fall ill? Do you not toil? Do you not suffer hardship? That is what you are recompensed for.
