machine translationThis hadith was narrated from Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd by a great many, among them ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith, Mālik b. Anas, Sufyān al-Thawrī and ʿAbd al-Wahhāb, among a great number. We do not know this saying to be narrated except from ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb from the Prophet ﷺ with this chain. ʿAlqamah b. Waqqāṣ also narrated another hadith, which Ḥammād b. Salamah narrated from Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd from Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm from ʿAlqamah from ʿUmar. The trustworthy (thiqah) ones among the companions of Ḥammād do not raise it to the Prophet (marfūʿ), and a certain man did raise it, so we have not mentioned it, since the trustworthy ones do not raise it.

machine translationYaḥyā b. Saʿīd al-Anṣārī narrates it from Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm from ʿAlqamah b. Waqqāṣ from ʿUmar, and it is a sound (ṣaḥīḥ) hadith from him. A shaykh from the people of al-Jazīrah called Sahl b. Ṣuqayr narrated this hadith from al-Darāwardī, Ibn ʿUyaynah and Anas b. ʿIyāḍ, from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAlqamah from Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm from ʿAlqamah b. Waqqāṣ from ʿUmar from the Prophet ﷺ. He erred regarding these three in it. These three and others only narrated it from Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd al-Anṣārī, not from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr. Only al-Rabīʿ b. Ziyād al-Hamdānī alone narrated it from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAlqamah, and he was not corroborated except by the narration of Sahl b. Ṣuqayr from these three, and he erred in it. The correct one is the hadith of Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd from Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm. It was also narrated from Ḥajjāj b. Arṭāh from Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm from ʿAlqamah b. Waqqāṣ from ʿUmar; Zayd b. Bakr b. Khunays said that from Ḥajjāj. Mālik b. Anas also narrated this hadith, and there is disagreement about him. ʿAbd al-Majīd b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Abī Rawwād narrated it from Mālik from Zayd b. Aslam from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, and he was not corroborated. As for the memorizers among the companions of Mālik, they narrated it from Mālik from Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd from Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm from ʿAlqamah b. Waqqāṣ from ʿUmar, and that is correct. Abū Wahb Yaḥyā b. Mūsā narrated to us: Muḥammad b. al-Walīd narrated to us, he said: ʿAbd al-Wahhāb narrated to us, he said: I heard Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd say: I heard Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm say: I heard ʿAlqamah b. Waqqāṣ al-Laythī say: I heard ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb say: I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: "Actions are only by intentions, and each person will have only what he intended. So whoever's emigration was to God and His Messenger, his emigration is to God and His Messenger; and whoever's emigration was for a worldly gain he would obtain or a woman he would marry, his emigration is to that for which he emigrated."
