machine translationAbū ʿĪsā said: This is a good and unfamiliar (ḥasan gharīb) hadith. We do not know it from the narration of Abū Isḥāq except through this route, from the hadith of Sharīk b. ʿAbdillāh. The practice in accordance with this hadith is held by some of the people of knowledge, and it is the position of Aḥmad and Isḥāq. I asked Muḥammad b. Ismāʿīl about this hadith and he said: It is a good (ḥasan) hadith. He said: I do not know it from the hadith of Abū Isḥāq except from the narration of Sharīk. Muḥammad said: Maʿqil b. Mālik al-Baṣrī narrated to us, ʿUqbah b. al-Aṣamm narrated to us, from ʿAṭāʾ, from Rāfiʿ b. Khadīj, from the Prophet ﷺ, similarly.

machine translationSomeone other than Sharīk narrated this hadith, and the hadith of Yaḥyā was not traced back (musnad) by anyone other than Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd. As for al-Shāfiʿī, he rejects the hadith of ʿAṭāʾ and said: ʿAṭāʾ did not meet Rāfiʿ. My father said: Rather, he did meet him. I said: Ḥammād says that the Prophet ﷺ passed by a crop and they said: This belongs to Ẓuhayr b. Khadīj. My father said: Ḥammād made a mistake in this wording. It is not Ẓuhayr b. Khadīj; rather it is Ẓuhayr, the paternal uncle of Rāfiʿ b. Khadīj, who is not named [as his son].
