حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ، يَقُولُ:
بَيْنَمَا رَجُلٌ يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْكَهْفِ لَيْلَةً إِذْ رَأَى دَابَّتَهُ تَرْكُضُ - أَوْ قَالَ: فَرَسَهُ تَرْكُضُ - فَنَظَرَ فَإِذَا مِثْلُ الضَّبَابَةِ - أَوْ قَالَ: مِثْلُ الْغَمَامَةِ - فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: تِلْكَ السَّكِينَةُ نَزَلَتْ لِلْقُرْآنِ، أَوْ تَنَزَّلَتْ عَلَى الْقُرْآنِ
Translation

✧ While a man was reciting Surat al-Kahf at night, he saw his riding beast bolting—or he said: his horse bolting. He looked and there was something like a mist—or he said: like a cloud. He mentioned that to the Messenger of God ﷺ, who said: That was the tranquility that descended for the Qur'an, or descended upon the Qur'an.
