✧ We were at the gate of Mu'awiyah (may God have mercy on him), and Abu Dharr was with us. He mentioned that he was fasting. When we entered and the tables were set, Abu Dharr began to eat. He said: I looked at him, and he said: 'O Ahmar, what is wrong with you? Do you want to distract me from my food?' I said: 'Did you not tell us that you were fasting?' Or I said: 'Did you not claim that you were fasting?' He said: 'Yes.' Then he said to me: 'Have you read the Qur'an?' I said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Perhaps you have read the singular form but not the doubled reward: Whoever brings a good deed shall have ten times its like.' Then he said: 'I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: Fasting the month of patience and three days of every month—I think he said: is the fasting of a lifetime, but this is what is certain—removes the malady of the chest.' He said: I said: 'What is the malady of the chest?' He said: 'The filth of Satan.'
