✧ That he was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a man came to him wearing two white garments, upright, handsome in stature and appearance, and said: "May I draw near to you, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Draw near." Then he said: "May I draw near to you, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Draw near." He kept drawing near until his knee was at the knee of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then he said: "May I ask you?" He said: "Ask." He said: "Tell me about Islam." He said: "The testimony that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah, the establishment of prayer, the giving of zakat, the pilgrimage to the House, and the fast of Ramadan." He said: "If I do that, then I am a Muslim?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Yes." The man said to him: "You have spoken the truth." We began to wonder at his saying to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "You have spoken the truth," as if he knew more than him. Then he said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me about faith (iman)." He said: "Faith is to believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the resurrection after death, Paradise, and Hell, and to believe in the divine decree, its good and its evil." He said: "If I do that, then I am a believer?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Yes." He said: "You have spoken the truth." We began to wonder at his saying to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "You have spoken the truth." Then he said: "Tell me what is ihsan." He said: "To fear Allah as if you see Him; for if you do not see Him, He sees you." He said: "You have spoken the truth." Then he said: "Tell me about the Hour." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The one questioned about it is no more knowledgeable than the questioner. They are five things that no one knows except Allah: Indeed, Allah has knowledge of the Hour, and He sends down the rain..." the verse. The man said: "You have spoken the truth."
