حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مِينَاءَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ
كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ لَيْلَةَ وَفْدِ الْجِنِّ فَتَنَفَّسَ فَقُلْتُ مَالَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «نُعِيَتْ إِلَيَّ نَفْسِي يَا ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ» قُلْتُ اسْتَخْلِفْ قَالَ «مَنْ؟» قُلْتُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ قَالَ فَسَكَتَ ثُمَّ مَضَى سَاعَةً ثُمَّ تَنَفَّسَ فَقُلْتُ مَا شَأْنُكَ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «نُعِيَتْ إِلَيَّ نَفْسِي يَا ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ» قُلْتُ فَاسْتَخْلِفْ قَالَ «مَنْ؟» قُلْتُ عُمَرُ فَسَكَتَ ثُمَّ مَضَى سَاعَةً ثُمَّ تَنَفَّسَ فَقُلْتُ مَا شَأْنُكَ؟ قَالَ «نُعِيَتْ إِلَيَّ نَفْسِي يَا ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ» قُلْتُ فَاسْتَخْلِفْ قَالَ «مَنْ؟» قُلْتُ عَلَيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ قَالَ «أَمَا وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَئِنْ أَطَاعُوهُ لَيَدْخُلَنَّ الْجَنَّةَ أَجْمَعِينَ أَكْتَعِينَ»

✧ I was with the Prophet ﷺ on the night of the delegation of jinn. He sighed, so I said: “What is the matter with you, O Messenger of Allah?” He said: “My soul has been announced to me as departing, O Ibn Masʿud.” I said: “Appoint a successor.” He said: “Who?” I said: “Abu Bakr.” He remained silent for a while, then moved on. Then he sighed again, so I said: “What is the matter with you, may my father and mother be your ransom, O Messenger of Allah?” He said: “My soul has been announced to me as departing, O Ibn Masʿud.” I said: “Then appoint a successor.” He said: “Who?” I said: “Umar.” He remained silent for a while, then moved on. Then he sighed again, so I said: “What is the matter with you?” He said: “My soul has been announced to me as departing, O Ibn Masʿud.” I said: “Then appoint a successor.” He said: “Who?” I said: “Ali b. Abi Talib.” He said: “By the One in whose hand is my soul, if they obey him, they will all enter Paradise, completely.”
