حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي نَهْشَلٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ قَالَ
عَبْدُ اللهِ فَضَلَ عُمَرُ النَّاسَ بِأَرْبَعٍ بِذِكْرِهِ الْأُسَارَى يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ فَأَمَرَ بِقَتْلِهِمْ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {لَوْلَا كِتَابٌ مِنَ اللهِ سَبَقَ لَمَسَّكُمْ فِيمَا أَخَذْتُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ} وَبِذْكِرِهِ الْحِجَابَ فَقَالَتْ زَيْنَبُ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَغَارُ مِنَّا وَالْوَحْيُ يَنْزِلُ فِي بُيُوتِنَا فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {وَإِذَا سَأَلْتُمُوهُنَّ مَتَاعًا فَاسْأَلُوهُنَّ مِنْ وَرَاءِ حِجَابٍ} وَدَعْوَةِ نَبِيِّ اللهِ ﷺ «اللهُمَّ أَيِّدِ الْإِسْلَامَ بِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ» ؓ وَبِرَأْيِهِ فِي أَبِي بَكْرٍ كَانَ أَوَّلَ النَّاسِ بَايَعَهُ

✧ ʿAbd Allah said, "Umar surpassed the people in four things: his mention of the captives on the day of Badr, when he ordered their execution and God, exalted is He, sent down {Were it not for a prior decree from God, a great punishment would have touched you for what you took}; his mention of the veil, when Zaynab said, 'And you are jealous of us while revelation descends in our houses,' so God, exalted is He, sent down {And when you ask them for something, ask them from behind a veil}; the supplication of God's Prophet ﷺ, 'O God, support Islam with Umar b. al-Khattab' ؓ; and his judgment concerning Abu Bakr, for he was the first of the people to pledge allegiance to him."
