✧ "There was between me and my wife what occurs between people. She said: 'If the authority you have over my affair were in my hand, you would know what I would do.' He said: 'Then the authority I have over your affair is in your hand.' She said: 'Then you are divorced three times.' He said: 'I consider it one, and you are more entitled to take her back.' And I will meet the Commander of the Believers ʿUmar. So he met him and related the story to him. He said: 'May God do to the men, may God do to the men! They take what God placed in their hands and put it into the hands of women. May dust fill her mouth! What did you say?' He said: 'I said: "I consider it one, and he is more entitled to her."' He said: 'And I think that. If you had thought otherwise, I would have considered that you were wrong.'" Mansur said: "I said to Ibrahim: 'But Ibn ʿAbbas used to say: May God cause her star to err; if she had said, "I have divorced myself."' Ibrahim said: 'They are the same.'"
