حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ ثنا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ فَقَالَ
إِنَّهُ كَانَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ امْرَأَتِي بَعْضُ الْكَلَامِ فَقَالَتْ لَوْ أَنَّ الَّذِي مِنْ أَمْرِي بِيَدِي لَعَلِمْتَ كَيْفَ أَصْنَعُ فَقُلْتُ فَإِنِّي أُشْهِدُكِ أَنَّ الَّذِي مِنْ أَمْرِكِ بِيَدِي بِيَدِكِ قَالَتْ فَأَنْتَ طَالِقٌ ثَلَاثًا قَالَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ «فَهِيَ وَاحِدَةٌ وَأَنْتَ أَحَقُّ بِهَا وَسَأَسْأَلُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ» فَرَكِبَ فَلَقِيَ عُمَرَ فَقَصَّ عَلَيْهِ الْقِصَّةَ فَقَالَ «بِفِيهَا الْحَجَرُ فَعَلَ اللهُ بِالرِّجَالِ وَفَعَلَ يَعْمِدُونَ إِلَى مَا جَعَلَ اللهُ فِي أَيْدِيهِمْ مِنْ أَمْرِ النِّسَاءِ فَيَجْعَلُونَهُ فِي أَيْدِيَهِنَّ مَا تَرَى؟» قُلْتُ «أُرَاهَا وَاحِدَةً وَهُوَ أَحَقُّ بِهَا» قَالَ «نَعْمَ مَا رَأَيْتَ وَلَوْ رَأَيْتَ غَيْرَ ذَلِكَ لَمْ تُصِبْ»

✧ "There was between me and my wife some words. She said: 'If the authority over my affair were in my hand, you would know what I would do.' I said: 'Then I call you to witness that the authority you have over your affair, which I possess, is in your hand.' She said: 'Then you are divorced three times.' Ibn Masʿud said: 'So it is one, and you are more entitled to her. And I will ask the Commander of the Believers about that.' So he rode and met ʿUmar and related the story to him. He said: 'May stones fill her mouth! May God do to the men and do—they take what God placed in their hands regarding the affair of women and place it in their hands. What do you think?' I said: 'I consider it one, and he is more entitled to her.' He said: 'Yes, what you have considered is good. Had you considered otherwise, you would have been wrong.'"
