✧ When a man came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and had no acquaintance in Madinah with whom to stay, he stayed with the people of the Suffah. I had companions there, and we used to receive from the Messenger of God ﷺ each day, between every two of us, two mudds of dates. While the Messenger of God ﷺ was in one of the prayers, a caller from among his Companions called out, "O Messenger of God, the dates have burned our stomachs and our guts are on fire." When the Messenger of God ﷺ finished the prayer, he stood up, praised God, and extolled Him, then mentioned what he and his people had endured of hardship. He said, "I and my two companions spent more than ten days with no food except wild berries, until we came to our brothers among the Ansar, and they shared their food with us. The bulk of their food was dates. By the One besides whom there is no god, if I could find bread and meat for you, I would feed you. Perhaps you will live to see a time — or whoever among you lives to see it — when people will wear garments like the covering of the Ka'bah, and bowls of food will be brought to you morning and evening."
