al-Mu'jam al-Kabir (al-Tabarani) 7335
✧ Safwan b. Umayyah b. Khalaf al-Jumahi, known as Abu Wahb, came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, on the day of the conquest of Mecca. He delayed him for four months and witnessed the Battle of Hunayn while he was still a polytheist. Then he embraced Islam after that and was martyred in the killing of Uthman.

حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ حَمْدَانَ الْحَنَفِيُّ ثنا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ حَمَّادِ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ الْقَنَّادُ ثنا أَسْبَاطُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ أُخْتِ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ قَالَ
كُنْتُ نَائِمًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ عَلَى خَمِيصَةٍ لِي ثَمَنُ ثَلَاثِينَ دِرْهَمًا فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَيَّ فَاخْتَلَسَهَا مِنِّي فَأُخِذَ الرَّجُلُ فَأُتِيَ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ لِيُقْطَعَ فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ أَتَقْطَعُهُ مِنْ أَجْلِ ثَلَاثِينَ دِرْهَمًا؟ هِي لَهُ قَالَ «فَهَلَّا كَانَ هَذَا قَبْلَ أَنْ تَأْتِيَنِي بِهِ؟»

✧ I was sleeping in the mosque on a cloak of mine worth thirty dirhams. A man came to me and snatched it from me. The man was caught and brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and he ordered that his hand be cut off. I went to him and said, “Will you cut off his hand for thirty dirhams? It is his.” He said, “Why was this not before you brought him to me?”
