✧ We arrived with the Messenger of God ﷺ on the morning of the fourth of Dhu al-Hijjah, all of us proclaiming the talbiyah for hajj. The Messenger of God ﷺ ordered us, so we circumambulated the House, prayed, and performed sa'y between al-Safa and al-Marwah. Then he ordered us, and we shortened our hair. Then he said, "Exit ihram." We said, O Messenger of God, from what? He said, "From what the one who is halal is permitted: women and perfume." So women were approached and incense burners sent forth their fragrance. He was informed that some of them were saying, Would one of us go to Mina while his private part drips semen? He preached to them, praised God Almighty, and extolled Him. Then he said, "Had I known earlier what I came to know later, I would not have driven the sacrificial animal. Had I not driven the sacrificial animal, I would have shaved. Now, take your rituals from me." So all the people remained until the day of al-Tarwiyah. When they wanted to head to Mina, they entered ihram for hajj. The sacrificial animal was upon whoever could afford it, and fasting upon whoever could not. He made them share in their sacrificial animals: a camel among seven and a cow among seven. Their circumambulation of the House and their sa'y between al-Safa and al-Marwah was a single circumambulation and a single sa'y for their hajj and their umrah. He did not mention the story of Suraqah b. Malik.
