✧ Hudhayfa was in al-Mada'in, and he used to mention things that the Messenger of God ﷺ had said to some of his companions in anger. So some people who heard that from Hudhayfa would go to Salman and mention to him Hudhayfa's statement, and Salman would say, “Hudhayfa knows best what he says.” They would return to Hudhayfa and say, “We mentioned that to Salman, and he neither confirmed you nor denied you.” So Hudhayfa came to Salman while he was in a tent of his and said, “O Salman, what prevents you from confirming me in what I heard from the Messenger of God ﷺ?” Salman said, “The Messenger of God ﷺ would get angry and say in anger to some of his companions, and he would fall ill and say in illness to some of his companions. Will you not stop until you cause some men to inherit love for other men, and other men to inherit hatred for other men, until you bring about discord and division? You know that the Messenger of God ﷺ gave a sermon and said, ‘Any man of my community whom I have insulted or cursed in my anger—I am but one of the children of Adam; I get angry as they get angry. God sent me as a mercy to the worlds, so I will make it a blessing upon him on the Day of Resurrection.’ By God, either you stop, or I will write to Umar ؓ about you.”
