✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Dhū al-Ḥulayfah. We captured camels and sheep, and some people went ahead among the vanguard of the people and slaughtered and set up their cooking pots before the spoils were distributed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by, and he was among the last of the people, and he saw the pots had been set up. He said, "What is this?" It was said, "O Messenger of Allah, they slaughtered and cooked." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered the pots to be overturned. Then he ordered the spoils to be distributed, and he set ten sheep for every camel. He said: While we were in that state, a camel among them bolted, and a man from the people pursued it. Then a man shot it with an arrow and stopped it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "These camels have wildness like the wildness of wild beasts. Whatever of them overcomes you, do with it like this." Then my grandfather said, "O Messenger of Allah, we fear meeting the polytheists tomorrow, and we have no knives with us." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whatever makes the blood flow and upon which the name of Allah is mentioned, then eat, except a tooth or a nail. I will tell you about that: as for the tooth, it is bone; and as for the nail, it is the knife of the Abyssinians."
