حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْجَارُودِ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ شَاذَانُ ثنا سَعْدُ بْنُ الصَّلْتِ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ

كَانَ لِي نَخْلٌ فِي سَهْوَةٍ لِي فَجَعَلْتُ أَرَاهُ يَنْقُصُ مِنْهُ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّكَ سَتَجِدُ فِيهِ غَدًا هِرَّةً فَقُلْ أَجِيبِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا كَانَ الْغَدُ وَجَدْتُ فِيهِ هِرَّةً فَقُلْتُ أَجِيبِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَتَحَوَّلَتْ عَجُوزًا وَقَالَتْ أُذَكِّرُكَ اللهَ لَمَا تَرَكْتَنِي فَإِنِّي غَيْرُ عَائِدَةٍ فَتَرَكْتُهَا فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَا فَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ وأَسِيرُهُ؟» فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ خَبَرَهَا فَقَالَ كَذَبَتْ هِي عَائِدَةٌ فَقُلْ لَهَا أَجِيبِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَتَحَوَّلَتْ عَجُوزًا فَقَالَتْ أُذَكِّرُكَ اللهَ يَا أَبَا أَيُّوبَ لَمَا تَرَكْتَنِي هَذِهِ الْمَرَّةَ فَإِنِّي غَيْرُ عَائِدَةٍ فَتَرَكْتُهَا ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لِي كَمَا قَالَ لِي فَقُلْتُ ذَلِكَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَقَالَتْ لِي فِي الثَّالِثَةِ أُذَكِّرُكَ اللهَ يَا أَبَا أَيُّوبَ لَمَا تَرَكْتَنِي حَتَّى أُعَلِّمَكَ شَيْئًا لَا يَسْمَعُهُ شَيْطَانٌ فَيَدْخُلُ ذَلِكَ الْبَيْتَ فَقُلْتُ مَا هُوَ؟ فَقَالَتْ آيَةُ الْكُرْسِيِّ لَا يَسْمَعُهَا شَيْطَانٌ إِلَّا ذَهَبَ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «صَدَقَتْ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ كَذُوبًا»

✧ I had date palms in my enclosure, and I noticed them diminishing. I mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, “Tomorrow you will find a cat in it. Say: Answer the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” The next day I found a cat in it, so I said, “Answer the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” It turned into an old woman and said, “I adjure you by Allah to leave me, for I will not return.” So I left her. Then I came to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, “What did the man and his captive do?” I told him her story, and he said, “She lied. She will return. Say to her: Answer the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” So [I did], and she turned into an old woman and said, “I adjure you by Allah, O Abu Ayyub, to leave me this time, for I will not return.” So I left her. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said to me as he had said before. I did that three times, and on the third she said to me, “I adjure you by Allah, O Abu Ayyub, to leave me until I teach you something that no devil hears without leaving that house.” I said, “What is it?” She said, “The Verse of the Throne. No devil hears it but he departs.” I mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, “She spoke the truth, though she is a liar.”
