حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالَا ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَسَدِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ أَخِيهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ

أَنَّهُ كَانَ فِي سَهْوَةٍ لَهُ فَكَانَتِ الْغُولُ تَجِيءُ فَتَدْخُلُ فَشَكَاهَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِذَا رَأَيْتَهَا فَقُلْ بِسْمِ اللهِ أَجِيبِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَتْ فَقَالَ لَهَا فَأَخَذَهَا فَقَالَتْ لَا أَعُودُ فَأَرْسَلَهَا فَجَاءَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «مَا فَعَلَ أَسِيرُكَ؟» فَقَالَ أَخَذْتُهَا فَقَالَتْ لَا أَعُودُ فَأَرْسَلْتُهَا فَقَالَ «إِنَّهَا عَائِدَةٌ» فَأَخَذْتُهَا مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا كُلُّ ذَلِكَ تَقُولُ لَا أَعُودُ وَيَجِيءُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَيَقُولُ «مَا فَعَلَ أَسِيرُكَ» فَيَقُولُ أَخَذْتُهَا فَتَقُولُ لَا أَعُودُ فَيَقُولُ «إِنَّهَا عَائِدَةٌ» فَأَخَذْتُهَا فَقَالَتْ أَرْسِلْنِي وَأُعَلِّمُكَ شَيْئًا تَقُولُهُ وَلَا يَقْرَبُكَ شَيْءٌ آيَةَ الْكُرْسِيِّ فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ «صَدَقَتْ وَهِي كَذُوبٌ»

✧ He had a loft, and a ghoul used to come and enter it. He complained about it to the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "When you see it, say: 'Bismillah, answer the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'" So it came and he said that to it, and he seized it. It said: "I will not return," so he released it. Then he went to the Prophet ﷺ and he said to him: "What did your captive do?" He said: "I seized it, and it said: 'I will not return,' so I released it." He said: "It will return." He seized it two or three times, each time it said: "I will not return," and the Prophet ﷺ would say: "What did your captive do?" and he would say: "I seized it, and it said: 'I will not return,'" and he would say: "It will return." Then I seized it and it said: "Release me and I will teach you something you can say so that nothing will come near you: the Verse of the Throne (Ayat al-Kursi)." So I went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him, and he said: "She spoke the truth, though she is a liar."
