حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ أَبِي النَّجُودِ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ الْبَكْرِيِّ قَالَ
قَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَبِلَالٌ قَائِمٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مُتَقَلِّدٌ السَّيْفَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَإِذَا رَايَاتٌ سُودٌ فَقُلْتُ مَا هَذِهِ الرَّايَاتُ؟ قَالُوا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ قَدِمَ مِنْ غَزَاةٍ
Translation

✧ We arrived in Madinah, and there was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the pulpit, and Bilāl was standing before him girt with a sword before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and there were black banners. I said: “What are these banners?” They said: “ʿAmr b. al-ʿĀṣ has come back from a military expedition.”
