حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ
ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ أَنَّ أَبَا مُرَّةَ مَوْلَى عَقِيلٍ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيِّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَمَا هُوَ جَالِسٌ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَالنَّاسُ مَعَهُ إِذْ أَقْبَلَ نَفَرٌ ثَلَاثَةٌ فَأَقْبَلَ اثْنَانِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَذَهَبَ وَاحِدٌ قَالَ فَوَقَفَا عَلَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَمَّا أَحَدُهُمَا فَرَأَى فُرْجَةً فِي الْحَلْقَةِ فَجَلَسَ فِيهَا وَأَمَّا الْآخَرُ فَجَلَسَ خَلْفَهُمْ وَأَمَّا الثَّالِثُ فَأَدْبَرَ ذَاهِبًا فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ عَنِ النَّفْرِ الثَّلَاثَةِ؟ أَمَّا أَحَدُهُمْ فآَوَى إِلَى اللهِ ﷻ فَآوَاهُ اللهُ وَأَمَّا الْآخَرُ فَاسْتَحْيَى فَاسْتَحْيَى اللهُ مِنْهُ وَأَمَّا الْآخَرُ فَأَعْرَضَ فَأَعْرَضَ اللهُ عَنْهُ»

✧ Al-Qaʿnabī narrated to us from Mālik, from Isḥāq b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Ṭalḥa, that Abū Murrah, the freed slave of ʿAqīl, informed him from Abū Wāqid al-Laythī that while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting in the mosque with the people around him, three persons came. Two of them came toward the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and one went away. He said: The two stood before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. One of them saw a gap in the circle and sat in it; the other sat behind them; and the third turned away and left. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had finished, he said: “Shall I inform you about the three persons? As for one of them, he sought refuge with Allah ﷻ, so Allah gave him refuge. As for the other, he was shy, so Allah was shy of him. As for the last, he turned away, so Allah turned away from him.”
