حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْوَزِيرُ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُوسَى السَّدُوسِيُّ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ خَيْثَمٍ الْهِلَالِيُّ عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ مَوْلَى بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ قَالَ

حَجَّ مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ وَحَجَّ مَعَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ حُدَيْجٍ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَسَبِّ النَّاسِ لِعَلِيٍّ فَمَرَّ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ فِي مَسْجِدِ الرَسُولِ ﷺ وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ جَالِسٌ فِي نَفَرٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَقِيلَ لَهُ هَذَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ حُدَيْجٍ السَّابُّ لِعَلِيٍّ ؓ فَقَالَ عَلَيَّ بِالرَّجُلِ فَأَتَاهُ الرَّسُولُ فَقَالَ أَجِبْ قَالَ مَنْ؟ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ يَدْعُوكَ فَأَتَاهُ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ؓ أَنْتَ مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ حُدَيْجٍ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا فَقَالَ لَهُ الْحَسَنُ السَّابُّ لِعَلِيٍّ؟ فَكَأَنَّهُ اسْتَحْيَى فَقَالَ لَهُ الْحَسَنُ ؓ «أَمْ وَاللهِ لَئِنْ وَرَدْتَ عَلَيْهِ الْحَوْضَ وَمَا أُرَاكَ أَنْ تَرِدَهُ لَتَجِدَنَّهُ مُشَمِّرَ الْإِزَارِ عَلَى سَاقٍ يَذُودُ الْمُنَافِقِينَ ذَوْدَ غَرِيبَةِ الْإِبِلِ قَوْلُ الصَّادِقِ الْمَصْدُوقِ ﷺ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنِ افْتَرَى»

✧ Mu'awiyah b. Abi Sufyan performed Hajj, and with him performed Mu'awiyah b. Hudayj, who was among the people most abusive of Ali. He passed through Madinah in the mosque of the Messenger ﷺ while al-Hasan b. Ali was sitting with a group of his companions. It was said to him, 'This is Mu'awiyah b. Hudayj, the abuser of Ali ؓ.' He said, 'Bring the man to me.' The messenger came to him and said, 'Answer.' He said, 'Who?' He said, 'Al-Hasan b. Ali is calling you.' He came to him and greeted him. Al-Hasan b. Ali ؓ said to him, 'Are you Mu'awiyah b. Hudayj?' He said, 'Yes.' He repeated it three times. Then al-Hasan said to him, 'The abuser of Ali?' He seemed ashamed. Al-Hasan ؓ said to him, 'By God, if you reach the pool — and I do not think you will reach it — you will find him with his garment girded up his shin, driving away the hypocrites as a stray camel is driven away. This is the saying of the truthful one, the one who is believed ﷺ, and he who fabricates has failed.'
