✧ Peace be upon you, O Abu Khubayb – he said it three times. I had forbidden you from this – he said it three times. You used to fast constantly and stand in prayer constantly, and maintain ties of kinship. This reached al-Hajjaj: the standing of Abd Allah b. Umar, so he had him brought down and threw him into the graves of the Jews. Then he sent to Asma bint Abi Bakr that she should come to him, and her sight had gone. She refused. So he sent to her: Either you come, or I will send someone to drag you by your forelocks. She said: By God, I will not come to you until you send someone to drag me by my forelocks. His messenger came back to him and told him. He said: O boy, hand me my sandals. He handed him his shoes, and he got up walking with a swagger until he came to her. He said: How do you see what God has done to the enemy of God? She said: I see that you ruined his worldly life for him, and he ruined your hereafter for you. As for what you used to taunt her about, the one with the two belts – indeed, I had two belts: one with which I covered the food of the Messenger of God ﷺ from ants, and one that women cannot do without. And I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: “Among Thaqif there is a destroyer and a liar.” As for the liar, we have come to know him; and as for the destroyer, you are the one. He said: Then he left.
