حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْخَلَّالُ الْمَكِّيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ الْعَدَنِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ ثنا أَبُو الْمُحَيَّاةِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ لَمَّا قَتَلَ الْحَجَّاجُ ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ دَخَلَ الْحَجَّاجُ عَلَى أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ

لَهَا يَا أُمَّهْ إِنَّ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَوْصَانِي بِكِ فَهَلْ لَكِ مِنْ حَاجَةٍ؟ قَالَتْ مَا لِي إِلَيْكَ مِنْ حَاجَةٍ وَلَسْتُ لَكَ بِأُمٍّ وَلَكِنْ أُمُّ الْمَصْلُوبِ انْظُرْ حَتَّى أُحَدِّثُكَ حَدِيثًا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «يَخْرُجُ فِي ثَقِيفٍ كَذَّابٌ وَمُبِيرٌ» فَأَمَّا الْكَذَّابُ فَقَدْ رَأَيْنَاهُ تَعْنِي الْمُخْتَارَ وَأَمَّا الْمُبِيرُ فَأَنْتَ قَالَ الْحَجَّاجُ مُبِيرٌ لِلْمُنَافِقِينَ

Translation

✧ He said to her: O mother, the Commander of the Faithful has commended you to me. Do you have any need? She said: I have no need of you, and I am not your mother; rather, I am the mother of the crucified one. Wait, let me tell you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of God ﷺ. I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: “In Thaqif there will emerge a liar and a destroyer.” As for the liar, we have already seen him – she meant al-Mukhtar – and as for the destroyer, it is you. Al-Hajjaj said: a destroyer of the hypocrites.
